Conceptual collaborative readymades
Katrin Woelger has been working with salt since 2008. The inorganic material is essential for survival, for preserving meat and milk, for metabolism, but also as a bactericide. Salt was the basis for culture, see Hallstatt, and a sought-after commodity.
In the salt sculptures, animals and the weather are the collaborators. They shape the blocks with different structures, each animal takes its salt from the block with its own individual strategy and unique signature, so to speak. The salt for these blocks comes from the Salzkammergut, it is exceptionally pure, snow-white and is pressed into very solid blocks for wild and domestic animals.
